Polychromos are used by professional artists all over the world. They have a very smooth laydown and layer very well. The notable exception are their metallic colors, which are very hard and scratchy, and very difficult to get any color off of them at all. They have round exteriors, and the colors match their water-soluble line, while giving artists a bit greater lightfastness than their water-soluble line. Lightfast ratings for these pencils has changed to be higher over the last several years. We don't know if they were actually reformulated, or retested, or just 'bumped up' for greater marketing. These pencils come in a beautiful, logically arranged color selection. They are of high quality, and don't break easily, since their cores are glued. We have never come across one that had off-centered cores or was warped, even the very old ones. These pencils layer quite well. They are a top choice for traditional, professional, colored pencil artists.
